Foundation for Modern Music presents “Music That Should Be Danced”, bringing together dance companies, composers, and musicians in its popular celebration. Celebrate the relationship between music and dance with groups from all over Houston. The concert will be hosted by Jade Simmons, who will also be at the piano paying tribute to jazz legend Lillette Harris with her new single "The Flight" (based on Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumble Bee") while Urban Souls dances to Harrison Guy's choreography.
Choreographers and dancers include Harrison Guy with Urban Souls, Julio López directing MECA Ballet Folklórico, Jennifer Mabus at Sam Houston State, Mitsi Dancing School, Chadwick Peters with Meyerland Dance Dept., Shani Sterling with HCC and Akwaaba Festival, and Chris Thomas with Son Kiss'd.
The music featured includes works by three Houston composers: Robert Nelson, Daria Tennikova-Satral, and Mary Carol Warwick. Musicians include FMM's Avalon Ensemble members and guests, soprano Alison Greene, mezzo-soprano Sonja Bruzauskas, Divisi Strings, HCC African drumming ensemble, and MECA Mariachi.
